In The Spotlight Today: Charmaine Grafton!

Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?

Charmaine: I’m Charmaine Grafton, author of You Win: A Simple Guide to Overcome Devastation and Walk into Your Destiny. I’m a true champion who was publicly humiliated but gracefully and courageously transformed myself from defenseless victim to courageous survivor while juggling a full-time course

load as I journey to obtain my Doctorate in Psychology. I work two jobs to provide for my four children. I’ve started the “You Win” movement to assist others in overcoming their devastation and peregrinate into their destiny. I’m a mom, an inspiration in my community, an entrepreneur and a SURVIVOR.

Give us a summary of your book!

Charmaine: You Win is my personal blueprint of the steps I took to get out of the darkest place I had ever experienced. The principles in this book helped me to get on course to fulfill my person. I knew once I made it through, I had to be a resource to so many others who were also in this space and had no idea how to shift.

What inspired you to write this book?

Charmaine: I was inspired to write You Win as I sat in court and listened to all the cases before mine. Each case almost identical. Each woman feeling pain and as if they were not being heard. At this particular court appearance, I no longer felt like a victim because I had begun doing the work to change my situation. In that room, I made a decision to write out what it was I was doing to get me out of that negative space. I desired to help these women in some sort of way, so what better way than through a book. Something tangible for people to reference over and over again.

If you could pick one song to describe this book, what would it be?

Charmaine: Rise up by Andra Day

Have you written any fiction novels as well? If not, would you and what genre?

Charmaine: I have no intentions of writing a fiction novel, mainly because I do not read fiction myself. I prefer non-fiction books. But if I had to choose a genre to write it would be a romance novel.

What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?

Charmaine: My two favorite books are Think and Grow Rich! By Napoleon Hill and The Game of Life by Florence Scovel. I don’t have a least favorite as I am very intentional with my reading.

Do you have any other hobbies, or businesses that you would like to share?

Charmaine: I enjoy cleaning and rearranging furniture. I know this is a bizarre hobby, but I really enjoy transforming spaces. Maybe when I retire, I’ll start a staging business.

Do you have any upcoming book specials/giveaways or events?

Charmaine: Next month I’ll be running a special for Domestic Violence month. Buy one get one!! I want my book in the hands of every person that feels they can not get through their current circumstances. This special will run October 1-31, 2018.

Anything else you would like to share?

Charmaine: I am not a victim but a survivor! It is my purpose to help liberate women through my story and experiences. I went through what I did to be a testimony for those who are in need of freedom from their pain, hurt and devastation.
