This past weekend, I had the pleasure of vending at the Poetry Festival hosted by Beyond the Neon and Ashley ‘Ms. AyeVee’ Vargas. Held at Fergusons Downtown, locals came out to shop with vendors such as Pearls of Gratitude, Tolsun Books, and Beyond Thought Journal. But the book fair didn’t scratch the surface of this memorable night. Ms. AyeVee gave us the tea on how to improve our brand with a workshop on doing business as a creative.
Poets from Tolsun Books shared poems close to their hearts about motherhood, the pandemic, and scorpions. Work that truly spoke to the life of a Las Vegas local. Speaking of poetry, the highlight of the night was the main event—the poetry slam. I’m talking POWERHOUSE performances from Elle Hope, who did not win the grand prize but definitely stole the show. Performers also included Rochard Jeruzalem Vital, and more! DJ J.Rich gave us live music and we also got an amazing performance by The1andOnlyZeke, who gave us an acapella version of his hits!
If there’s one thing I can say about Las Vegas, there is a hidden culture here. It’s not something that shows itself immediately but comes when you get to know the community and surround yourself with like-minded people.
