Hi my name is Marjai Cooks. I am 27 years old and from Las Vegas NV. One fun fact about Vegas is that there is always something to do. I love to travel, shop, and try new foods. In my free time, I’m always down for cardio!
When did you realize you had a love for art/poetry and writing?
When I joined Dr. Riley's English class at The College of Southern NV.

Who and what has been an inspiration for you during your writing/poetry journey? What motivates you to keep creating during such difficult times?
Dr. Riley played a big role in my journey. She pushed me week by week to become a better writer, to write period! I have now learned to express myself in depth not only verbally but through a pen as well.
What hobbies do you enjoy outside of your day job?
Aside from traveling, I like to do everything and anything that requires fun! I currently have a thing for Disneyland.
What are some of your favorite books and who are some of your favorite writers?
A Child Called It is my all-time fave. Steve Harvey and Oprah are my favorites. Also Mrs. Obama if I had a top three.
What was your experience like being a part of this contest/publication?
A chance to be heard.
What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Never give up. To write is to journal. To journal is to negotiate life on a pen and pad.
