In The Spotlight Today: Yladrea Drummond!

Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?

I am 29 years old. I was born in Houston, Texas, although I grew up in an accompanying suburb - Missouri City, TX or as many call it Mo City, TX!

Give us a summary of your book!

This book is quite frankly a view into mind and how it processed past trauma. More so, this book is about the journey it took me to identify, confront, accept, and overcome the toxic holds that were holding me back. This book shows many moments of confusion that led me to the truth. That truth being that for every action there is a reaction and that mental strangleholds can have a big hand on how an individual transitions through life. In Through These Eyes, you can expect to learn that “soul ties” come in many shapes and forms, that sometimes bigger ties create smaller ties and that sometimes can’t pinpoint them until you’re past them. Finally, Through These Eyes is the final resting place for my past hurt and hopefully the first spark for others to start recognizing, confronting, and overcoming their own.

What inspired you to write this book?

I always knew that I had a story to tell. I also knew that there is someone out there that had it worse than me. Some that may not think I had it bad at all. Now look at what I just said, that sounds like a person who is worried about others' approval. That person is what held me back from writing this years ago. But the woman who wrote Through These Eyes no longer has any worries, she doesn’t care about who may not like this book. I wrote this book because I’m finally free. I want to help as many people as I can, in recognizing the true root of what’s holding them back from being their best selves. I wrote this book to let others know that nothing is wrong about recognizing the ugly in our life at an older age. Mostly, I want people to understand that being real with yourself is hard, trying, and worth it. I knew writing this book would be rough, not because I’m still in pain, but because I can’t believe I lived through it. Helping one person get to the freedom they deserve is the true inspiration for Through These Eyes!

If you could pick one song to describe this book, what would it be?

Ways - Jhené Aiko

Have you written any fiction novels as well? If not, would you and what genre?

No, I haven’t, but yes I would write one. If I wrote a fiction book it would likely be a suspense or romance fiction novel.

What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?

My Favorite: Flyy Girl by Omar Tyree - I’m certain I was too young to read it but it was the first book that made me want to read for fun and it was my first escape.

Least Favorite: A Wrinkle in Time - we were required to read it at an age where I couldn’t fully understand the concept.

Do you have any other hobbies or businesses that you would like to share?

I like to do movie and tv series reviews (no one outside my husband reads them but I may share them soon)

As far as businesses. I am the Founder & CEO of a political compliance consulting firm. I work with campaigns and non-profits to ensure they are compliant with local, state and federal regulations.

Do you have any upcoming book specials/giveaways or events?

None that are set in stone at the moment. But I do intend to do some giveaways to the first 3 book clubs to add my book to their 2020 reading list!

Anything else you would like to share?

I’ve realized that I have a different outlook on life and I wouldn’t change that for the world. It’s my intention to reach at least one person outside myself. Accomplishing that will be the highlight and my biggest reward from writing Through These Eyes! You never know maybe I have another book or two in me!
