In the Spotlight Today: Rashaan Riggans!

How old are you and where are you from?

Rashaan: I’m 22 years old, 23 in October, From Neptune township near the shores in New Jersey where you’ll wear a t-shirt outside today, and a Winter jacket tomorrow.

How old were you when you realized you wanted to be a writer?

Rashaan: A little over a year ago. I had random thoughts or scenario’s that would pop up in my head. So, I Decided to just writhe these things on my computer and see where it takes me. After putting these thoughts together, I had a story on my hands.

Tell us more about your book! When did you start writing it and what difficulties did you face while writing/publishing it?

Rashaan: I began writing it May of last year. -Rahku is in search for his long-lost friend Zenrachi who disappeared several years ago after a tragedy threw the world of an up & coming fighting prodigy into a downward spiral. He finds Zenrachi after many years with the power of the Legendary storm bird. As Rahku tries to reconnect their bond, his old friend appears much different man than the one he knew. He persuades him to join him on a quest to eliminate Members of an organization of rouges who threaten their world by taking the sacred Gems of the land of storms, Arashi Tochi. As their journey ensues, Zenrachi faces his past, appearing in all shapes and sizes. One in particular in the form of a mysterious red-haired woman that loves explosions with a serious grudge. the supernatural draws the soul of the Storm Bird to an ominous cave that awaits a fight from Zenrachi's dark truth…

Honestly, writing it wasn’t the hardest thing, I kept telling myself I could do it, speaking my uprising into existence. Sometimes keeping your cool writing a tense moment can get tough. Nerves of steel… and deep breaths. I never thought I could just go publish a book. I reached out to a bestselling who actually replied back and gave some great words of advice. Just the little gas I needed to start the fire to get this book going. Once really looked into it I knew what I was going to do. I found an editor after searching the web, I went with my gut on them and I’d do it again. I was lucky to have a friend who could turn the concept of a cover into a Dope Manga-like cover that it is now.

If you could relate to any character in your book, who would it be and why?

Rashaan: Hisashi, Rahku’s young protégé he takes with him to find Zenrachi. He’s a good laugh to have with them when Zenrachi is too serious and keeps the both of them in check.

What type of books do you enjoy? What are two of your favorites?

Rashaan: Action, Adventure. Or backstories. I like to know “How we got here” I recently Finished Wonder Woman: War bringer by Leigh Barudo. I’m a fan of DC The backstory of Her homeland is intriguing. I’m now reading Black Privilege by Charlemagne Tha God. Great read by the way

Besides reading and writing, what else do you enjoy doing during your free time?

Rashaan: I play video games a lot. I have a PS4. I’ Currently playing the masterpiece God of War and Dragonball Fighterz. I like Rpg’s and Fighting games are my specialty. Other than that, I just sit back and vibe to music. Other than rap, I’m particularly fond of 70’s Japanese Jazz music by Meiko Kaji, Yoshiko Sai, & Hako Yamasaki. I enjoy watching anime. I’m currently keeping up with My Hero Academia and Black lagoon.

If you could pick any song to describe your main protagonist, what would it be?

Rashaan: off top… XXX by Kendrick Lamar. The calm then the quick escalation from the beat switch. Zenrachi Story starts off calmly, but as his past shows up various to fight them in various forms Until a final battle becomes his only chance of survival. Kendrick tells a story that escalates He got a call that someone killed his friends only son and how they’ll get their vengeance by any means.

Do you have any upcoming books in the works?

Rashaan: In fact, I do. Storm Cry is the first of a Series. Book 2 Is in production and will release this year. Tells a story of Zenrachi’s past and his Partner who now has a deep grudge against him. The Contessa. The prequel entails how they met, their missions with the Tsurasu together and why the powerful Contessa Comes for him and the Storm Bird
