How old are you and where are you from?

My name is Mykia Wilson. I am 21 years old and I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Tell us more about your book!

 My book entitled, “Speak Your Truth Young Queen” is a collection of poetry that

represents the opinions and views of a young black woman and focuses on the issues and

problems in the black community. I unapologetically tackle the issues that aren’t

addressed as much and shed light on the problems that are hindering our community. My

book covers a variety of topics such as misogyny, mental health, generational trauma,

violence, colorism, and sexual assault. It will be available for purchase on Amazon

February 25th !

You’re sharing an elevator with a big name publisher. Pitch your book using 20 words or

less!

 My debut book is a soul-captivating collection of poetry that will move and inspire you to

make a change!

What does your ideal writing space look like?

 I prefer to write in a very chill and calm environment, but honestly, I can write anywhere.

Whenever I feel motivated or find inspiration I either take out my phone or paper and a

pen. For instance, most of my poems were written during class. I would literally take out

a piece of paper in the middle of a lecture and start writing a new poem. I’m pretty good

at multi-tasking so my grades didn’t suffer too bad haha!

If your book was turned into a movie, who would play your main characters?

 Sista Soulja would be the narrator and I would choose up and coming black actors and

actresses to play the other characters. Basically, I would put my people on!

You’re stranded on an island, and only one character from any book can save you. Who

are you picking?

 I would have to go with Rue from the Hunger Games. She is an example of how strong

and tough black women are.

Besides being a writer, what else do you enjoy?

 I love 90s fashion and music. I also love to shop at thrift stores and watch basketball.
