Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?
Well, I am a 48 year old single mother of 2 grown people. My son is the oldest at 27 and married and my baby is 21, who is not a baby anymore is my daughter. I was born in Chicago and I've lived here for the majority of my life but spent about 3 years as a kid in Englewood California. I am also the oldest of 7 in a blended family. In addition to being an author I am also a coach and a speaker.
Give us a summary of your book!
My book, Rejection Saved My Life, is a self-help memoir that gives the reader 15 Transformational Keys on how to use rejection as F.U.E.L. (Faith Upgraded to Exponential Levels). Every woman, from birth to adulthood, has experienced rejection at some point in her life. Parental rejection, rejection in marriage, childhood rejection, rejection in the workplace and so much more. Often, she is left wounded, lifting baggage that is just too heavy for her to carry. My book allows the reader to look into my four marriages that ended in divorce and shows the reader that forgiveness was tied into how I viewed being rejected and finally, how rejection saved my life, literally. There is a place and time for becoming whole again after the worst of circumstances. My book, “Rejection Saved My Life” when applied, can also help save yours.
What inspired you to write this book?
You know, I have been through so much in my life that could have really taken me out of here. But I realized quickly that all of it was not because God hated me. But rather He loved and trusted me so much that he would take those things that most would have thought were for their demise, and prepared me to help other women. These women, may not have the support or knowledge of how to pull themselves out of the pain, regret, self-doubt, fear, shame, and rejection. I simply believe my life is not my own, it doesn't belong to me... that it belongs to God. I believe that He is using my testimonies as a means to draw people to Him and to show them that forgiveness is possible regardless of the circumstances.
If you could pick one song to describe this book, what would it be?
Great question. I would have to choose Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger". Her song depicts the same type of story as my book. That no matter what you go through, it is really is designed to make you stronger.
Have you written any fiction novels as well? If not, would you and what genre?
Funny thing is, I originally started writing my book as a fiction novel. But I got 5 chapters in and my convictions wouldn't let me and I had to start all over. Although I have been very transparent for much of my life, I was a little nervous about telling this much of my story. I really think I will always write non-fiction because I believe I have ideas that will help a lot of women and that's my life's work - helping women overcome, heal, be better and live their best lives. So, I'm not sure if I would ever write a fiction novel. Besides my life is so unreal, that I think sharing the real thing is better. LOL!
What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?
My most favorite book is the Esther Anointing by Michelle McClain-Walters and Fervent by Priscilla Schrier. I love the Bible, so these two books take the Bible and tie it into real life stuff. My least favorite book and I was almost mad reading was Shakespeare's Macbeth. Lol. It was so dark that I don't think I could even stay focused in reading it. Sorry Shakespearians. LOL! I typically love books about real life stories.
Do you have any other hobbies, or businesses that you would like to share?
Yes. I am the CEO and Founder of The Core Woman Academy where I coach women how to discover themselves after giving so much in broken relationships, how to drop the baggage of past pain and disappointments, surpass their self-sabotaging limitations, achieving their goals and create the lives they deserve and desire. I do this through several creative programs that I offer that last from 6 weeks up to 9 months.
Do you have any upcoming book specials/giveaways or events?
I have my Official Book Launch and 1st Book signing on February 24, 2019 at Deja Hue Sip and Paint Studio located at 10505 S. Western Ave in Chicago from 3pm to 7pm. I will also be doing a 5 city tour over the next few months. March I will be in Texas and April in Atlanta.
