Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?
Hayley: I (Hayley Bi my pen name) was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to British Columbia, Canada, when I was eighteen. Currently 48 years old. My interest in the supernatural world began during my childhood, and eventually led to discovering my own sixth sense. I have two teenage children. I hold a degree in psychology, a certificate in family studies, and a diploma in counseling science. My Supernatural Encounter with the Orange Being is my debut into the literary world. I prefer to read non-fiction books especially in the angelic supernatural realm. I like shopping and watching YouTube videos. I hope to travel more.
In 100 words or less, give us a summary of your book.
Hayley: Hayley Bi believes that sharing life experiences and what is beyond our consciousness can be powerful and healing not just for her, but also for others who may have a desire to do the same.
In a collection of true stories, Bi begins by sharing several supernatural childhood experiences that included learning her sister was possessed and given away, using a Ouija board to communicate with the dead, camping in a haunted area in Hong Kong, and gradually realizing she had been gifted with a sixth sense. As she reveals how her gift allowed her to know about an upcoming fire in her apartment building, hear the voice of her car accident, and encounter unbelievable sights such as an orange being, Bi also shares how she found gratitude for the important messages communicated to her through dreams.
What inspired you to write about the supernatural?
Hayley: Because I experience them occasionally, so I want more people to realize that it is perfectly normal and many people around the world have similar experiences like mine.
When did you publish this book, and what was your biggest challenge while publishing?
Hayley: Just published in May 2018.
The biggest challenge was when the compliance department of the publisher was inconsistent about the decision on one of the chapters in the book. I deleted identifiable details and adhered to their suggestions at the beginning and got a go-ahead. However, they revoked the decision at the end when my book was ready to come out. They gave me a choice of deleting the chapter or change to a pen name. Unwillingly, I picked Hayley Bi as my pen name. I am starting to like that name because I have to use it a lot these days. The name changes also caused a lot of confusion to different book publishing platforms – some used the pen name, and some used my real name. Fortunately, the problem is fixed now.
If you could pick one song to describe this book, what would it be?
Hayley: I don’t know enough songs to be able to pick one to describe my book.
Do you write fiction as well? If not, would you and what genre?
Hayley: I am planning to write one down the road. But I want to write a sequel to My Supernatural Encounter with the Orange Being next year first.
What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?
Hayley: So many favorite books. I like Lorna Byrne, she is able to see angels on a daily basis and she wrote a few books about her experiences.
The kind of genres I don’t have a lot of interest in are romance novel and historical fiction.
Do you have any other hobbies, businesses that you would like to share?
Hayley: I like shopping a lot, especially online. Also, I enjoy watching various kinds of YouTube videos. If I have time, I like to keep myself updated about property investment opportunities.
